intake of pulses and very little of vegetables (all types). Kitchen garden was developed as a solution to this imbalance
in daily diet.The resource persons developed a specific design of kitchen garden for ensuring proper nutrition. The kitchen
garden model developed for kharif (monsoon) season was implemented. Similar designs for other seasons will be
implemented over the next few quarters. These designs will provide year-round security in terms of vegetable intake.
25 participant families grew these kitchen gardens and reaped a good harvest of Tomato, Brinjal, Chillies, Ladies-finger,
Cluster beans, Field beans, Bottle guard, Spinach, Fenugreak leaves, Coriander leaves, Amranthus, and Sponge guard.
These families with few exceptions like field beans did not grow any vegetables before the project intervention.
They occasionally bought potatoes, brinjals, tomatoes, and chillies from the weekly market.
